Facing flak at home over the BRT fiasco, chief minister Sheila Dikshit is now looking eastwards for inspiration. Dikshit, along with four city government officials, is all set to fly to Beijing later this month and officials say a trip to the Beijing BRT to see how it is working may be on the cards. The official purpose of the visit, though, is to see the preparations for the Olympic Games. The visit to Beijing and Tianjin is scheduled between May 27 and 30, and among the officials accompanying the CM are chief secretary Rakesh Mehta, principal secretary (Commonwealth Games) P K Tripathi and a senior PWD official. Though the final itinerary is to be worked out between the Indian Olympic Association and its China counterpart, government sources say the CM may be keen on studying the working of the bus rapid transit system in Beijing.
