Evaluate BRTS, says forum

The Forum for Sustainable Development, (FSD), engaged in advocating sustainable development, has asked the government to evaluate the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS), its impact on the society, environment and public safety before its launch, said forum convenor of the coastal areas, Mr S. Bhujanga Rao. He said even though the project was reported to have been cleared by the Central government (with JNNURM funds) and expected to be launched shortly, the details of the project was not made available for the public information debate, before finalisation. Around 2,500 families (project affected and project displaced) would be affected as part of the road widening for the Pendurthi transit corridor alone. At the same time the other two corridors have also similar displacement of the people. The GVMC has not yet even worked out steps to be taken regarding rehabilitation of the affected people.
