The city district government has set up 54 centres in Rawalpindi district to supply flour to the residents at control rate of Rs 375 per 20 kg bag.
Punjab Deputy Director Food Saqib Manan told Daily Times that 35 points had been set up in Rawalpindi city, four in Taxila, nine in Murree and six in Kahuta. He said soon trucking points in Kalar Syedan and Kotli Sattian would also be set up. He said in Rawalpindi these centres had been set up at Khyaban-e- Sir Syed, Pindora, Double Road, Chungi No 22, Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Syedan, Girja Road, Talimorhi, Dhamyal Camp, Adyala Road, Lalkurti, Dhoke Kala Khan, Rehmatabad, Chaklala, Sir Syed Chowk, Dhoke Kashmirian, Dhoke Ratta, Babu Lal Hussain Road, Mohallah Akal Garh, Dhoke Dalal, Dhoke Khaba, Morgha, Commercial Market, People's Colony, Eidgah Sharif, Mohallah Raja Sultan, Chor Chowk, Jhanda Chichi, Fauji Colony, Banaras Colony, Committee Chowk, Mohanpura, Gunjmandi and Bunni Chowk.
Manan said 20 kg flour bag would be provided to people through trucks at these points. He said 90 flourmills operating in the district had assured the city district management of their full cooperation. He said the Revenue Department officials would monitor the flour supply to people at these centres.
However, the people at these centres informed Daily Times that instead of ordinary citizens the flour bags were being given to shopkeepers, who were selling these at Rs 400 to Rs 430 per bag.
Imran Ali, a customer in Tench Bhatta, said there was no check on the sale of flour through trucks, as each shopkeeper of the area was getting five to six bags leaving nothing for general public. He said no official was present to monitor sale of flour at these trucking points. He said there should be a check on sale of more than two bags to each customer. District Officer (Revenue) Chaudhry Habibullah said there was no shortage of flour and the allegation that people were not getting flour from the trucking points was incorrect, as trucks from most of the localities were returning to the flourmills with half of the load unsold.
District Coordination Officer Syed Jamal Mustafa said they would not allow anyone to sell flour above the Rs 375 rate. He said on Monday they had taken action against the Madina Flourmills for selling flour bag of 20 kg to dealers at Rs 385.
