Looking to ample possibilities in the food processing sector efforts are being made to increase the income of the farming community by effective coordination among industrialists, policy makers, technology experts and financial institutes. The state cabinet recently approved food processing policy. The first priority of the government is to encourage the industrialists and to give several concessions to them. This initiative of the government in this sector is welcome. The industrialists in place of establishing their plants in any special zone would establish it there, where the food processing items are produced in large quantities. In such a condition the farmers would get proper price for their produce in their own area. There is possibility of getting better benefit in horticulture sector. The government has also started preparation to provide more benefit to the farmers for their produce. In this connection a seminar is being organised on food processing on June 17 and 18. The farmers would be informed about crop management. Whereas the industrialists would be assured that government would solve their problems for setting up their units. The government is trying that better coordination and understanding be developed among industrialists, experts and financial institutions and farmers with a view to provide better prices to the farmers for their produce like soya, rice, tomato and potato including fruit and vegetables. The farmers and industrialists both would be benefiting with the policy of state government. But there is need to implement this policy properly. It is sure that a better scenario would emerge after better and transparent implementation of this policy.
