The Delhi government plans to tackle price rise by opening a large number of retail grocery shops in the city. The Delhi government plans to tie up with the Kendriya Bhandar for opening grocery shops. The official added that the food items will be available in these shops at the wholesale rates. The Delhi government plans to ask the government agencies like the Delhi Jal Board, public works department, Transco and other agencies to make available the space for the retail shops. The government will also take up the issue with various resident welfare associations as part of its Bhagidari initiative to seek the necessary space within different colonies for opening the shops. As part of its plan the Delhi government will hand over the shops to the Kendriya Bhandar for managing them. "The Kendriya Bhandar has the expertise to run the grocery shops in the city and its officials said that they can take up as many shops as possible. The government will hand over the new shops and they will be responsible for running them as well as procuring the grocery items," said a senior official. "The move comes after the government in its internal investigation found that the retailers and the hoarders were responsible for the price rise of the essential food items in the city in the last couple of months. Now that the Kendriya Bhandar enjoys the trust of the people, the government would ensure that the people in general do not bear the brunt of the retailers' and hoarders' actions," added official.
