The Madras high court has restored the diesel dual pricing policy according to which bulk consumers must buy diesel by paying about Rs 12 more than the retail rates. The first bench comprising acting chief justice R K Agrawal and justice N Paul Vasasnthakumar, passing orders on an appeal filed by the Union petroleum ministry on Monday, set aside a single- judge order staying the dual pricing system. Sending the matter back to Justice S Rajeswaran to consider it afresh, the judges said: “The single judge has neither assigned any reasons while passing the interim injunction nor considered the question of prima facie case, balance of convenience, irreparable loss and protection of petroleum ministry’s interests.” TNN
