India's leading brands of honey contain high levels of antibiotics. A study conducted by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has brought to light that banned antibiotics including chloramphenicol, broad spectrum ciproflaxacin and enthromycin are found across leading brands sold in the market. These include, CSE claims, such noted brands as Dabur, Baidyanath, Patanjali Ayurveda, Khadi and Himalaya. The tests were conducted at CSE's Pollution Monitoring Laboratory (PML) which found that even two foreign brands from Australia and Switzerland had high levels of antibiotics which would be illegal in their own countries.
