Human-induced emissions are on the rise, says a new study
In a recent study, the Global Carbon Project stated that carbon emissions from human activity have grown nearly four times faster than in the 1990s. The emissions grew at 3.5 per cent per year between 2000 and 2007 as against 0.9 per cent per year between 1990 and 1999.
Ballooning emissions from countries such as China and India have saturated natural carbon sinks and rendered international emissions control treaties such as the Kyoto Protocol ineffective.
But as emissions worsen, the outlook for green jobs has improved. The United Nations Environment Programme says India could create 900,000 jobs in the biomass gasification industry by 2025. It adds that by 2030 there could be 20 million renewable energy jobs worldwide, including 8.4 million jobs in wind and solar energy.
