The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and the LPG Distributors Association (LPGDA) on Friday sorted out the LPG price issue and fixed the retail rate at Rs 63 per kilogramme and Rs 743 per 11.8-kilogramme cylinder. District Co-ordination Officer Sajjad Bhutta taking action on rickshaw union's application had convened a meeting of stakeholders to discuss the price issue. Association General Secretary Rana Arshad and his Information Secretary Attique Khan and the representatives of LPG marketing companies also attended the meeting. The meeting also resolved the issue of fixation of LPG prices for the marketing companies, distributors and consumers under which the gas producing companies would sell domestic gas cylinder at Rs 543 and the marketing companies would charge Rs 685 from dealers. However, a gas cylinder would cost Rs 743 to consumer. It was decided the Civil Defence officials would maintain gas sale record at gas producing and marketing companies' offices. A strict monitoring system has also been decided to be put in place. The DCO, on the occasion, said the city government will not allow overcharging while a crackdown is being launched against the sale of substandard cylinders. All the Town Municipal Officers (TMOs) have been issued directions in this regard who will report to the DCO on a daily basis. The association secretary said the city government had fixed Rs 12 as profit for the marketing companies and Rs 5 each for the distributors and retailers. He, however, accused the gas producing companies of creating artificial shortage to exploit the situation. Copyright Business Recorder, 2008
