The state election commission is yet to decide on the change of last date for withdrawal of candidates from 21 April to 22 April following the Bangla bandh jointly called by Trinamul Congress and Suci. Miss Mamata Banerjee, Trinamul Congress chief today took out a rally from Mominpore to Hyde Road to protest against the price increase of essential commodities and imposition of water tax. She complained that Trinamul Congress candidates were not allowed to file their nominations in North Burdwan especially in Raina where the candidates were locked up in a room today and were severely beaten up. She has sent Mr Partho Chatterjee, Leader of the Opposition to Raina to take stock of the situation. Her party has also written to the state election commission to allow the Trinamul candidates to file nomination at SDO office in Garbeta, Keshpur, Arambagh, Goghat, and Khanakul. A senior Suci leader, however, said they are discussing with the Trinamul about seat sharing and there is no ill feeling between the two parties. RSP leader and state PWD minister, Mr Kshiti Goswami today said the Left Front partner has failed to come to an agreement about seat sharing with big brother CPI-M at the grassroots level in the upcoming panchayat polls. The two Left partners could not come to an understanding in a large number of areas like Beldanga, Nawda and Khargram in Murshidabad, Nanur in Birbhum, Sandeshkhali and Minakhan in North 24-Parganas, Canning in South 24-Parganas with candidates from both parties filing nomination. The minister also spoke to Left Front chairman, Mr Biman Bose on the issue.
