Nutrition project for adolescent girls to continue

Special Correspondent Pilot project in 51 districts Release of Rs.162.77 crore to States, Union Territories approved Foodgrains at BPL rates for beneficiaries NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday approved continuation of the "Nutrition Programme for Adolescent Girls' in 2008-09 in 51 districts on a pilot project basis with minor changes in guidelines. The CCEA approved release of the Central assistance (on a 100 per cent grant basis) of the allocation of Rs.162.77 crore for 2008-09 to States and Union Territories. Under this programme, all undernourished girls, in the age group 11-19, identified by body weight, will be covered, irrespective of the financial status of their families. Foodgrains at the below poverty line rate of Rs. 6 a kg will be provided to the beneficiaries on a monthly basis. Cut-off weights To identify the beneficiaries two cut-off weights would be adopted
