Hundreds of residents of the Pushpa Bhavan area spilled out on streets and picketed the Pushpa Bhavan bus station on the BRT corridor.
They demanded that all such stations on the stretch should be moved back to the sides of the roads. Arguing that the government had accepted the failure of the BRT model with stations in the centre of the road and decided to shift them in the next stretch, residents demanded the same for the Pushpa Bhavan stretch.
"If the people for whom the BRT has been set up are not happy, what is the need to continue with the corridor project. The residents have a valid demand and stations should be shifted to road sides instead of the central verge," Mr Sanjay Kaul of People's Action said.
Over 200 people blocked the traffic at the corridor, forcing buses to take roads in the neighbouring colonies and bypasses. The protest started at 9.30 am and continued till 12.30 pm.
Women staged a dharna on the site and complained about the dangers their children face due to bus stops on the middle of the road. Elderly people complained about walking 1.5 km on a detour to just cross a road.
"A three-point demand note to the DMITS officials was delivered, asking to shift the stations to the sides, a status quo on the old traffic crossings and removal of barricades that has made it impossible for them to cross the road," Mr Praveen Kumar from Madangir said.
