FOR completing all Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) projects in PimpriChinchwad, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided to form a special purpose vehicle (SPV). This is probably the first time that any municipal corporation in the country is forming an SPV for the completion of projects.
Announcing the SPV plan, Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said that the Centre on Friday approved a financial grant of Rs 442.6 crore for completion of two BRTS corridors in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
"Around Rs 2,204 crore has been sanctioned by the. Centre till today under JNNURM for completion of slum rehabilitation projects proposed by the civic body," said Mayor Aparna Doke.
"The funds would be used for the completion of two BRTS corridors in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The first one being between Nashik Phata and Wakad, a stretch of eight km for which the Centre has approved Rs 214.84 crore. The government has also agreed to provide Rs. 227.76 crore for the completion of the 11.2 km of BRTS corridor from Kalewadi to Dehu-Alandi," said Sharma.
Two flyovers, each of 1.9 km from Empire Estate to Kalewadi, besides a 1.3km flyover from Nashik Phata to Wakad, would be completed from the funds acquired from the central government. The executives of CRISIL gave a presentation on the specifications of the project in the meeting held in Delhi on Friday.
The proposals were passed in a meeting chaired by Dr A M Ramchandran, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development and other central government officials in Delhi on Friday. Joint Secretary Pravinkumar Shrivastav, S K Lohia, director, urban transport, Union Ministry of Urban Development, PCMC city engineer Eknath Ugale and PCMC's deputy engineer were present among others.
