Secretary General Kofi Annan told the UN World Food Summit that it was time to halt 'the gnawing pain of hunger', but hardly a leader of a major power up to hear his message. 'In a world of plenty, ending hunger is within our grasp', Annan told the opening session. Failure to reach this goal should fill every one of us with shame. The time for making promises is over. It is time to act.
