Road to hell In yet another accident on the BRT corridor, two people were injured when a Blueline rammed into a bus stand at Pusph Vihar in south Delhi on Tuesday morning. According to police, the Blueline was on its way to Sarojini Nagar. The driver of the bus lost control when he tried to avert hitting a boy who was crossing the road near Pusph Bhavan intersection. "As a result of the impact, passengers inside the bus were hurled from their seats. We were informed about the accident at 9 am, " said a police official. The victims are: Rahul Kashyup (19) and Laxman (20). Laxman lives in Ambedkar Nagar while Rahul is a resident of Sangam Vihar. The victims were rushed to AIIMS, where they were discharged after giving first-aid. The driver of the bus, Shafi Mohammed, fled the spot after the accident. A claim belied BRT mastermind Prof Dinesh Mohan had claimed that, in case of a vehicle break down on the corridor, it would take only eight minutes to tow away the vehicle and clear the way for the traffic. This claim was belied on Tuesday afternoon. A tourist bus broke down at around 10.20 am near Madangir and it remained unattended there for half an hour. Later, staff of the bus repaired it and drove it away. There was no sign of any crane service on the corridor. Creating more space for cars The authorities are trying to make changes in the design to make more space for private vehicles. "The island built at Ambedkar Nagar would be done away with. DTC buses parked on the sides of Badarpur-Mehrauli road will be removed. This will give more space on either sides of the road. MCD construction work going on there will be stopped. We will also widen the road by 100 metres to increase road space at Siri Fort," said RK Verma, Transport Commissioner-cum-Secretary. Axe to fall on more trees Three more trees are waiting to be felled in order to facilitate the expansion on the ITO -- Dilli Gate stretch. Felling of these trees at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg will add to the 10,000 trees, which were cut earlier for the corridor. The expansion work on the corridor is in full swing even after the Government announced stalling of further expansion of the corridor. When asked about the ongoing work, Transport Commissioner RK Verma said only levelling work is being done to restore the road. All construction works have been called off, he added. More confusion in store More plight is in store for commuters from Thursday, as Bluelines will not be allowed on Ambedkar Nagar-Moolchand stretch. Without enough DTC buses, the commuters will have a tough time.
