WFP Country Director visits erosion victims in Haimchar

WFP Country Director in Bangladesh John Aylieff visited river erosion affected areas in Haimchar upazila in Chandpur yesterday. He was accompanied by WFP Deputy Country Director Edward Kallon and Programme Advisor Tariq Mehmood Awan. During the visit to affected areas bank in Telirmore, he was over whelmed to see the devastations caused by the mighty river Meghna. Panicky victims urged WFP officials to help stop the river erosion immediately and to give financial aid (stipend) to affected students. John Aylieff said, "I have come to Bangladesh three weeks ago and I am studying problems here. WFP is concerned about the problems in Bangladesh that are river erosion, flood and cyclones and high prices of essentials. "We have a programme to stand by erosion victims. We have also a plan to re-double our efforts to help the people through co-ordinated efforts with the government. Earlier John Aylieff along with his team visited a training program on poultry rearing at Algi Durgapur Union Parishad complex. The WFP team also distributed VGD wheat among distressed people at Algi Durgapur South Union Parishad complex. Chandpur Deputy Commissioner SM Monirul Islam, Haimchar UNO Shaogatul Islam, and VOSD Officials ware present.
