): 'Carbon Credits Potential in Wind Power Sector in Pakistan' would be highlighted at a two-day workshop being organised by the United Nations Development Program/Global Environment Facility (UNDP/GEF)-funded Wind Energy Project (WEP) on August 29 and 30 at a hotel here.
The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is implementing GEF. WEP has embarked upon a very comprehensive program for capacity-building of its stakeholders. The first day of the workshop has been reserved for conference on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) during which different speakers will give presentations on different aspects of CDM, while on the second day selected participants will be given training on CDM.
The workshop aims to enhance private sector participation in CDM by improving understanding of the CDM, its underlying concepts and eligibility criteria, and how the companies could engage in the mechanism.
The participants would be informed about different aspects of CDM including Green House Gas (GHG) accounting issues such as what constitutes a CDM project, information on the CDM project cycle, clarification and training on underlying concepts such as additionally and baselines, project boundaries and how they can be determined, what leakage is and when and how it must be taken into account, and what constitute validation, verification and monitoring.
Training course will introduce the participants to the climate change challenges, the international processes, and the opportunities offered to the developing countries, particularly to India by these processes, evolution of carbon markets including CDM, would also feature in the talks. The latter half of the course would enhance understanding on the carbon market, particularly the CDM. Addressing the issues involved in Project Design Document (PDD) development would set the tone for the day's deliberations.
The participants would also be introduced to the issues in validation and verification of CDM project and what constitutes a good project. The second session of training would cover topics on carbon finance, the concept, and the related issues. Key areas of concern vis-
