Removal of selected pharnaceutical compounds from water by an organic polymer resin

This study presents adsorption performances for Carbamazepine, Propyphenazone and Sulfamethoxazole using polymer resin, Lewatit VP OC 1163. Adsorption capacities followed: Carbamazepine>Sulfamethoxazole>Propyphenazone. Lewatit VP OC 1163 showed a larger adsorption for pharmaceuticals having low solubility, with Freundlich adsorption parameter, Kf, reaching 46.068 for Carbamazepine.

Reclamation and reuse of treated municipal wastewater: an option to mitigate water stress

Growing population, industrialization, agricultural practices and urbanization have increased the water demand and hence the quantity of wastewater (ww). Availability of drinking water, including different components of daily per capita demand in developing countries, is becoming a serious issue to manage. To fight with growing water stress, reclamation and reuse …

Treatment of swine wastewater with subsurface-flow constructed wetlands in Yucatn, Mexico: Influence of plant species

This study evaluates the capability of horizontal subsurface-flow constructed wetlands (SSF CWs) for treating pretreated swine wastewater as a function of contact time (CT) and type of macrophyte under the local conditions of Yucat

Water treatment & wastewater reuse

The quintessential example of large scale municipal wastewater reuse is the new Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System in Orange County, CA. The system treats clarified secondary municipal wastewater effluent and, utilising microfiltration, reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation to produce 70mgd of reclaimed water.

Decentralised wastewater treatment with chambers

The need of new approaches for wastewater management and environmental demands worldwide is challenging product manufacturers to develop advanced technology. Scientists, engineers and regulators are exploring innovative ways of testing new approaches and thinking about how to accomplish and manage decentralised wastewater treatment.

Ozone in wastewater treatment

Ozone technology has been used for the past two decades or more. It is, however, only now that its use in wastewater treatment has been recognized.

Efficient wastewater cooling

Due to regulation and laws dealing with environmental protection, many new and existing facilities are required to install systems that eliminate or prohibit "open-loop" process waste streams containing contaminants. These systems may involve utilising chemical, mechanical, or biological treatment which commonly require cooling.

Adsorption systems as solution to wastewater problems

Adsorption occupies an important position among the unit operations in wastewater treatment. It exploits the ability of certain solids preferentially to concentrate specific substances from solution onto their surfaces. This paper deals with different adsorption systems as solution to wastewater problems.

Performance evaluation of anaerobic single baffled reactor as alternative to existing onsite sewage treatment for Lakshadweep Is

Recent study on ground water quality in Lakshadweep Islands shows that groundwater in these islands are mainly contaminated by domestic sewage and sea water intrusion. Contamination by domestic sewage is attributed to tank used by the islanders for sewage disposal. In the present study, an Anaerobic Single Baffled Reactor is …
