The GSPC Group, through its subsidiary GSPC Distribution Networks Ltd, has signed a definitive agreement with the British Gas Group to acquire 65.12 per cent stake in GGCL. The deal, however, was not warmly received by the market. GGCL stock dived nine per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

New Delhi Brace for another dose of price hikes. A high-level committee on Wednesday recommended a slew of measures to encourage investments in the infrastructure sector, including hikes in electricity, gas prices and rail fares besides deregulation of port tariffs. While the rationalisation behind the suggestion is to make the respective businesses remunerative, the committee has also pitched for other measures such as hiking the FDI limit in the telecom sector from 74% to 100%, removal of regulatory uncertainties and easier M&A rules to ease flow of funds into the sector.
New Delhi Petrol price may be cut by about Rs 1.60 per litre later this month as appreciation of rupee against the US dollar has helped state firms make profit on the fuel. Indian rupee appreciated to five-month high since the government announced allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retailing. This has eased the cost of imports for oil firms, helping them make profit on sale of petrol. "Yes, there is about Rs 1.60 per litre profit on petrol since October 1. But we want this trend to stabilise before we think of cutting retail prices," a senior executive at one of the three state-owned fuel retailers said.

New Delhi In a bid to protect its revenue stream and maintain margins while fulfilling its obligations to supply higher level of coal to the power sector under the new fuel supply agreement, Coal India is going in for an aggressive strategy to step up output. The focus will be on increasing the supply of washed coal to the consumers commanding a premium pricing. The company, which is producing about 22 million tonne of washed coal at present, expects to take up production to about 300 mt or over 50% of its total coal production by over next few years.
