The Uttar Pradesh government unveiled the Budget for 2013-14 in the state assembly on Tuesday, estimating a total expenditure of Rs 2.21 lakh crore. Mayawati's BSP, the main opposition party, staged a walkout alleging that more than 75% of last year's Budget remained unspent. “The state will move ahead with this budget and the target of making UP ‘Uttam Pradesh’ (excellent state) will be achieved,”Akhilesh told reporters here. "Through this budget, we have made effort to provide maximum benefit to all sections of the society, including farmers, youths, Muslims, women and poor," he said. The Budget, presented by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav who also hold the finance portfolio,showed a 9.8% increase from last year's size of R2 lakh crore.
To enhance the 150-km long metro network in the city, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transport for London (TfL), UK's transport authority, on Monday. The partnership will seek to facilitate exchange of information and personnel for transfer of latest technology in the area of transportation, said a statement issued by MMRDA. "The MoU seeks to set up a co-operative framework of co-operation between the two sides for Metro development and operation," it said.
The 125-km project is considered to be strategically important, owing to Uttarakhand’s vast border with China More than a year after the foundation stone for the much-ambitious Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail project in Uttarakhand was laid, the railways are yet to start its geological survey amid reports that investigations may continue for another two-three years. “We are at present carrying out alignment works and the geological survey will begin only after March this year”, say a top railway officials.
JAMMU: N N Vohra, Governor, has called for urgent utilization of eco-friendly technologies for the sustained protection of environment and ecology. The Governor said this while receiving a detailed presentation by a team of senior scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on bio-digester based eco-friendly toilets, at Raj Bhavan, here last evening. The Governor observed that there is need for urgently utilizing the valuable technology developed by the DRDO for an eco-friendly solution to treat human wastes. He said that this technology should be adequately publicized for enlarging awareness about its utility. He observed that possibilities could be explored for installation of these bio-toilets at various important tourist spots for eco-friendly treatment of human wastes.
These rules may be called the Metro Railways General Rules, 2013 and Opening of Metro Railways for Public Carriage of Passengers Rules, 2013. These rules shall come into force on the date of their publication
Kochi: The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) will focus on addressing transport issues in the upcoming budget. Briefing the media on pre-budget discussions in Kochi on Monday, GCDA chairman N Venugopal said that various transport projects, including the ring road and water transport projects, would be given importance in the budget. GCDA will send a letter to the state government requesting that the development body be made the nodal agency for coordinating various water transport proejcts in Kochi.
Nod For Road, Rail Projects To Be Fast-Tracked New Delhi: With environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan insisting that rights of tribals cannot be overlooked while clearing projects in forest areas, government has now decided against changing the norms for forest clearances, except in the case of rail tracks, roads and power lines – called linear projects. The decision came following a meeting called by PM Manmohan Singh with Natarajan and tribal affairs minister V Kishore Chandra Deo after the two had voiced opposition to a PMO report asking for severe dilution to the rules requiring consent from gram sabhas (village councils) for projects in forests where tribals dwell traditionally.
