Project report for monorail submitted
The proposed monorail project in Kozhikode received a shot in the arm on Tuesday with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) submitting the detailed project report to the State government and expressing willingness to take it up from September. The first phase of the monorail, a mass rapid transit system, covering 14.2 km with 15 stations starting from the Government Medical College hostel area to Meenchanda, can be executed in 36 months at a cost of Rs. 1,991 crore. The entire alignment is elevated, carried on single pillars generally along the median of the road.

A Metro Advisory Board has been set up to formulate plans for expansion and financing of Metro rail projects across the country by the Union Urban Development Ministry. Green signal for bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad
Two ambitious rail projects - proposed elevated rail corridor in Mumbai and a bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai - got a boost on Wednesday as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh finalised the targets for key infrastructure projects in PPP model in railways. At a meeting with ministers and secretaries of key infrastructure ministries, it was decided to flag off the elevated rail corridor project for Mumbai suburban service with a total investment of Rs. 20,000 crore in 2012-13.

Chennai transport sector is fifth largest polluter, says study
Chennai ranks fifth in carbon emissions from the transport sector among 54 South Asian cities, according to a study done by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative.
