AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court on Thursday asked the state government to find out which private hospitals deny treatment to swine flu patients. Justice Anant Dave even inquired what action can be taken against such hospitals for such gestures. Earlier this week, TOI had reported that various private hospitals refuse to admit patients down with H1N1 virus. The high court did not seem content with the measures taken to contain spread of H1N1 virus and the treatment provided to the affected. The state government and the corporations like AMC have been asked to come up with further details on what "concrete actions" they are planning to take to contain the situation.
Swine flu cases have reached epidemic proportions in Gujarat with 121 deaths, most of them females between 15 and 45 years of age, during the past two-and-a-half months. Besides, at least 652 people have been detected positive for H1N1 virus. In comparison, only 30 deaths were reported last year out of 101 cases that were reported.
Pune: Swine flu has claimed 20 lives in the state since January, nine in March alone, say state health officials. Among the total number of casualties, Pune district accounts for the highest number (10), said state surveillance officer Pradip Awate. “Six people died of H1N1 influenza within Pune municipal limits while four were from Pimpri-Chinchwad,” he added. Rejects Congress demand for discussion on H1N1 infections in state which has claimed over hundred lives The Gujarat assembly speaker Vaju Vala on Thursday rejected demand of the opposition Congress seeking discussion on swine flu deaths in the state on the grounds that the situation was not in nature of an emergency.
