Ailment Reported For The First Time In State, Claims Life Of 50-Year-Old The health department is fighting the first outbreak of Lyme disease in the state in human settlements inside the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The disease has claimed the life of a 50-yearold woman while four others have been affected so far. All the affected belong to Nambiarkunnu at Chettiyalathur in Noolpuzha panchayat. Govt doctor tests positive A government doctor has tested positive for swine flu in Sirsa while ten new suspected cases of the disease have come to the fore in Hisar in the past two days and two suspected cases have been witnessed in Fatehabad. In Hisar, the health authorities collected throat swab samples of six patients yesterday and four patients today. “We have sent throat swab samples of 172 patients to the Central Institute for Communicable Diseases (CICS), Delhi, for testing so far this year. Of these, 62 were found to be positive - 34 from Hisar and 28 from other districts. As many as 11 people have died due to the H1N1 infection in the district.
Gandhinagar: The incidences of swine flu continues unabated in the state as seven fresh cases of patients testing positive for the virus came to light on Thursday. Of these, five cases have been reported from Rajkot while one each was reported from Bharuch and Surat. The flu that is also referred to as H1N1 virus has claimed 30 lives in Gujarat in the past two months, health minister Nitin Patel said in the state assembly on Thursday. An alert has been sounded in the health fraternity regarding the virus which has Saurashtra in its grip. Patel said that H1N1 virus was a cause of concern which has spiked because of the prolonged winter.
With 615 cases of swine flu, including 11 deaths, registered in the national capital since January, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the status of H1N1 flu. Forty-five new cases were reported on Thursday. While directing the Health department to take proactive steps to control the spread of the disease, Dikshit also asked for a 'forceful' awareness campaign across the city. Dikshit underlined the need to isolate H1N1 patients and augmentation of such facilities.
Sixty people tested positive for swine flu here on Wednesday, taking the total number of those infected by the Influenza A (H1N1) virus to 570, an official said. “Sixty people tested positive for swine flu, but there have been no deaths on Wednesday),” a doctor of the Delhi Health Service (DHS) said. According to doctors, there has been a sudden spurt in the number of swine flu cases; there were 39 cases and one death in January alone, and 531 cases and 10 deaths in February as of Wednesday. “This year there have been 570 cases of swine flu in two months,” an official said.
