Heat draws power demand to all-time high
High humidity coupled with extreme temperatures has resulted power demand in the Capital rising to unprecedented figures. Monday recorded the highest ever peak power demand at 4,668 MW, surpassing the May 24 record of 4,581 MW. Till last year, the dreaded peak power demand mark for the department was a humble 4,500 MW. This summer, however, this mark has been crossed several times already.

Delayed monsoon, measures taken for power supply

Panel may consider raising petrol price by Rs 3, will check with allies on diesel
At its next meeting, the Empowered Group of Ministers plans to raise the price of petrol by Rs 3 a litre despite the position taken by UPA partners Trinamool Congress, DMK and NCP. But the panel will seek their consensus on raising the price of diesel by Re 1 a litre.
