Amreli Activist Beaten Up By Stone-Crushing Unit Owner Rajkot: An RTI (Right to Information Act) applicant was attacked on Sunday in Thordi village in Savarkundla taluka of Amreli district. According to sources, Narshibhai Malani, a resident of Thordi, was allegedly attacked by the owner of a stone crushing unit, Mahesh Khuman, on Sunday morning. Narshibhai was rushed to a government hospital after the attack. Malani has registered a case against Khuman with Savarkundla taluka police station.

The pilot project at Kotkasim, Rajasthan has revealed loopholes, they say Sampat Rai is a resident of the Kotkasim block of Rajasthan’s Alwar district, where the Cash for Kerosene Scheme (CFKS), an experiment with cash payment of kerosene subsidies, was launched last year on a pilot basis. Mr. Rai is lucky as, unlike other residents of the area, he has a bank account where the kerosene subsidies are supposed to be transferred after he buys kerosene from the market at the market price. But receiving Rs. 90 over the year has increasingly become an expensive affair for the octogenarian as his son has to forego a day’s wage to accompany him to the nearest bank, which is 6 km away from their house.
Protesting against an alleged polluting industrial unit in their town, around 200 residents of Kayalpatnam in Tuticorin district filed RTI petitions with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) here on Monday. They also met TNPCB officials and made representations with them. Residents and members of the Kayalpatnam Environmental Protection Association (KEPA) alleged that the factory owned and operated by DCW Ltd at Sahupuram, had been flagrantly flouting environmental norms by releasing effluents into the sea.The factory manufactured caustic soda, liquid chlorine, beneficiated ilmenite and trichloroethylene, and PVC.

Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (CNDP) and People's Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) claimed that the exercise is a mere eyewash and power generation through nuclear plants is hazardous for people. The activists fear that the IAEA will give clean chit to Rawatbhata nuclear plant where implementation of proper safety measures is still under a cloud.
