Finding the talks with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy “fruitful,” the Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnani, a people’s front in support of the victims, has decided to suspend the 130-day indefinite relay hunger strike by the mothers of the victims. Mr. Chandy, during the discussions with a delegation, led by P. Karunakaran, MP, and district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi, in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, promised steps to meet the demands raised by the mothers for the rehabilitation of the victims and their families as suggested by the National Human Rights Commission, Ambikasudan Mangad, leader of the front, said at a press conference here on Monday.

The Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnani has accused the State government of trying to subvert the endosulfan victims’ rehabilitation package proposed by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). In a statement here on Sunday, the organisation alleged that the government was distorting NHRC’s recommendations thereby denying assistance to most of the victims and their families.
T. Ramachandran, Thally MLA, and his brother T. Varadarajan were produced before the Hosur Judicial Magistrate II, K. Suresh Kumar on Saturday night at around 10.05 p.m. in connection with the illegal mining of granite in quarries at Uthanapalli near Hosur. On behalf of the police, R. Alarmed by the rise in illegal drug trials in the country and the lack of effective laws for their monitoring, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is mulling guidelines for clinical trials. The NHRC has written to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and other premier medial institutes in the country to suggest the names of experts to assist the commission in framing the guidelines. Recently, the unauthorised drug trials had caused great concern in the country after the Drug Controller-General of India (DCGI) revealed that 2061 persons died during drug trials between the period from January 2008 to January 2012.
