The moot is aimed at raising awareness among the people to ensure their maximum participation in the universal drive for the elimination of thrust and poverty through their maximum role and participation in the agricultural activities to boost the agricultural productions in their respective area.
Punjab Minister for Agriculture Ahmed Ali Aulkh has said that the government is giving priority to agriculture and is distributing 60,000 acres land on lease to the landless farmers, and priority will be given to agriculture graduates. "The government is also planning to start schemes for irrigation with a cost of Rs 7 billion," he added. He told a press conference in the Agriculture House on Friday that the government had allocated Rs 550 million for tunnel technology used in growing off-season vegetables.
Senior Punjab Minister, Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that a sum of Rs 11.3 billion has been earmarked in the next fiscal budget to regenerate and improve the 37000 kilometres long irrigation network in Punjab. He was talking to a visiting students' delegation of Agriculture University Faisalabad, who called on him at his residence, here on Sunday. At the outset of the meeting, Raja Riaz told the students that irrigation system in Punjab is one of the most important assets for the province as it plays pivotal role in the agriculture sector by providing water for the crops.

Pasban Sindh President Rafiq Ahmed Khaskheli and Karachi Chapter President Syed Ashraf Hussain asked the provincial and city governments to shun their differences for the sake of Karachiites and join hands to put the chaotic and problematic public transport system on the right track.

The Food Security and Productivity Enhancement Programme of Small farmers has recorded a significant expansion reached 1012 villages costing Rs 100 million in Punjab. A spokesman of Agriculture department on Friday told Business Recorder that the federal, provincial and district governments in Punjab would jointly carry out the programme. The programme would be carried out in 72 villages of Sialkot while each village would be provided with funds amounting to Rs 1.95 crore for implementation of the programme while initial work on the project has already been initiated in the district.
Presently weather situation across the country has given the sign of 'Happy Monsoon', especially for the areas where the sowing of crops had started or was about to start. It is expected that the early monsoon, which approached different parts of the country, would create positive impact on the agriculture sector. Director Forecasting, National Weather Forecasting Centre Akram Anjum told that normal monsoon rains would occur this summer across the country. This paper attempts to analyse the current global crisis in the availability and prices of rice by drawing upon the long-term developments in the rice market. The instability and thinness in the world rice markets are shown to be mainly due to the predominantly precautionary export policies of major exporting countries, which in turn are a result of domestic food security considerations. Some possible policy options are also discussed.
The provincial government has transferred an official of the livestock department from Swabi to Mardan as punishment for allegedly disclosing that H5N1 strain of bird flu influenza had been detected in a poultry farm of the district, sources told Dawn. They claimed that on the advice of a local MPA, who favoured the poultry farm owners, Basic Livestock Officer Mohammad Ibrahim was made a scapegoat for revealing the information and "transferred within a day as the process usually takes a month'.
