Baalu in its report, which was tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, expressed concern that during inspection, the committee found that normal tap water was being used for drinking at most stations.

New Delhi In an attempt to de-risk its exploration business, state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) plans to foray into gas retailing business through a new subsidiary -- ONGC Gas Ltd. ONGC would use the new subsidiary for its foray into city gas distribution business and sale of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), company officials said here. The new unit may be aimed at making amends to the company letting go lucrative opportunities to enter gas business.
AHMEDABAD: In what may come as a setback for AMC, the union ministry of urban development has sent a report highlighting shortcomings in the JNNURM projects implemented in Ahmedabad city. Union minister Kamal Nath, in his letter of April 25, 2012, has informed the state government to take "immediate actions" based on the inquiry report. A team of urban ministry officials was in the city recently to inquire into the allegations fielded by the opposition Congress in the AMC. The union ministry has also asked CAG to inquire into the implementation of JNNURM projects across Gujarat cities.
AHMEDABAD: For the first time a new standard for operations for BRTS has been introduced by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). From the next year onwards, the city's BRTS will be rated against 70 other similar mass transit networks across the globe, said ITDP officials. The ITDP has released the BRT Standard, Version 1.0 - a new scoring system based on internationally recognized best practice in bus rapid transit (BRT) system design.
The city is lending a helping hand to Hubli-Dharwad, the second-largest urban spread in Karnataka after Bangalore. The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (Cept) University has shown the way to the aggregation, which is suffering because of overloaded public transport service, by designing a BRTS for the twin city. A Rs 450-crore project has been proposed, including Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) between Hubli and Dharwad. Cept University has been roped in as a consultant for the project which covers a stretch of 22.2 km.
AHMEDABAD: If everything goes according to plans, the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) will have three more routes by June-end. These new routes will take BRTS to Iskcon crossroads, Visat petrol pump in Chandkheda, and Soni-ni-Chawl. The Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) wanted to start these new routes by the end of this month, but could not. Now in all probability, the new routes will be added by June-end.

AHMEDABAD: A debate over improving connectivity to Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) city has been vexing the state government for long. With nearly 10 floors of 22 of the towers ready at GIFT SEZ site, the urban development department is mulling over the feasibility of taking a BRTS up to the heart of the project. The discussion is on for the last one month in the state urban development department. The new transport may also require a new bridge to be constructed across the Sabarmati river between Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and GIFT city.
