Hyderabad, July 2: A writ petition was filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday seeking a direction for action to be initiated against Hindustan Beverages Coca-Cola Limited for selling its drinks higher than the MRP rate in Cinema theatres in the city. The petition filed by the Cine Preskhakula Viniyogadarula Sangham stated that the company has been selling its cool drinks at Rs 15 per bottle while the MRP printed on the bottle was only Rs 10. NEW DELHI: The Centre, battling shortage of food grains and double-digit inflation, got a significant relief on Monday from the Supreme Court, which imposed an interim ban on further export of non-basmati rice. This interim order came on the Centre's petition questioning the decisions of various high courts to allow rice export by firms, which had challenged the April 1, 2008, central notification banning such exports.
Leaders from the Group of Eight industrial powers will agree to establish a task force at their summit next month to tackle the world food crisis, a report said on Monday. The group will aim to address the immediate problem of food shortages in poorer countries as well as address longer-term challenges such as boosting food production, the Yomiuri Shimbun said, citing unnamed government sources.
