MARGAO, JUNE 30 - Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has moved the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao for a permanent order against dumping of garbage and waste at the Sonsodo dumpyard. The MLA has filed a petition in the Court of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, praying that for a stop to garbage dumping by the mmc. In his petition, he drew attention of the Court that the Sonsodo dump yard has turned out a nuisance to people residing in and around the dump yard with the Civic body failing to treat the waste in a scientific manner and under the Garbage management rules.

PERNEM, JUNE 28 - Wild elephants have returned to haunt residents of Khutwal and Alorna villages in Pernem taluka, defying efforts to get them driven outside the State. On Friday evening, the elephants destroyed banana plantations of Yeshwant Naik, Gopal Naik and Rama Naik and the sugarcane plantations of Ganpat Raul, Santosh Naik and Chandel Deputy Sarpanch Divya Naik. Forest Officer Mr Britto took stock of the damage and has submitted a report to the forest department.
