The Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) for 2013-14 for Thanjavur district prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) envisages a credit flow of Rs. 3,489 crore. The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Southern Bench, has rapped the Tirunelveli Collector and Sivagiri Tahsildar for their non-appearance in a case filed by the villagers of Nelkattumseval against the conversion of a stream into a road in Tirunelveli district. R. Sundaraiah Thevar and R.Velusamy Thevar of Nelkattumseval village, Sivagiri taluk, filed an application before the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi seeking to restrain the authorities from converting the land into a road and further sought direction to maintain the subject survey land as it exists as per the revenue records. The application has been pending before the NGT since September last year.
Land acquisition for the Puzhuthivakkam MRTS station has reached the final stages with an “award passed for acquisition of 8,462 sq. m. of land.” The information was shared with officials of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (Cumta), the Chennai Corporation and other agencies at a meeting organised at the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Wednesday. With Cumta stressing the need for a well chalked-out strategy to speed up traffic and transportation projects, the CMDA is planning to take measures to cope with legal proceedings and quicken land acquisition.
