The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) Chennai, on Tuesday, hailed the government’s approval for multi-level parking in apartments in the city as a decision that would relieve parking space pressure and enhance the architectural aesthetic in the city by “tucking parking space into the structure”. Addressing a press conference, CREDAI president Sandeep Mehta said it was important that this permission was in the same building (stilt+2) and not a separate block, as this essentially meant that construction of parking space would no longer be restricted to the stilt floor and was exempt from Floor Space Index norms.

Coast Guard asked to move stranded ship within 3 days to prevent pollution off Marina coast In a bid to prevent pollution off the Marina, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has asked the Coast Guard to move stranded vessel MT Pratibha Cauvery mid-sea within three days. According to senior officials with TNPCB, its representatives have orally communicated this to the Coast Guard, but a letter signed by the Board’s chairman will be sent to the Coast Guard on Wednesday.

Air quality too, to be monitored at five spots, during Deepavali It’s a busy time of year for officials of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). A week head of Deepavali, they have begun measuring levels of noise and ambient air quality at five places in the city. Monitoring stations have been established in thickly-populated areas like Besant Nagar, T. Nagar, Sowcarpet, Nungambakkam and Triplicane to collect dust samples before, during and after the festival. According to an official, noise levels will be recorded for six hours every evening and pollution levels, every 24 hours from 6 a.m.

The Supreme Court on Monday directed that the Mullaperiyar dam case be listed for final arguments on February 19, 2013. A five-judge Constitution Bench, comprising Justices D.K. Jain, R.M. Lodha, H.L. Dattu, C.K. Prasad and Anil R. Dave, fixed the date of final hearing after brief submissions from senior counsel Harish Salve for Kerala and senior counsel Vinod Bobde for Tamil Nadu. The Bench is hearing a suit filed by Tamil Nadu questioning the law enacted by Kerala in 2006 to restrict the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam at 136 ft. though the Supreme Court had permitted Tamil Nadu to raise the water level up to 142 ft. Since Justice Jain is due to retire in January next, a new Bench will hear the matter.

A Central Government appointed high-level team constituting the 6th Common Review Mission (CRM) under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has commenced concurrent evaluation and review of development works taken up in the district under NRHM, on Sunday. The CRM team would be assessing the progress of NRHM works on 24 parameters relating to core strategies and central areas of concern by visiting the District Headquarters hospital, taluk and non-taluk level government hospitals, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), health sub-centres and villages over five days.
