The Delhi government has procured a digital map to track the movement of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses that will initially run on four selected routes in the city. As reported by this newspaper for the first time, the draft has been prepared by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) to track the movement of DTC buses fitted with global positioning system devices. The process will be extended to other routes in the near future. "DIMTS is in the process of getting electronic passenger information boards installed at bus shelters across the pilot BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand," an official said. This revolutionary system will provide commuters with information about how long they will have to wait for the next bus. "A digitised map has also been drafted to track the movement of buses. Initially, the system will only be operational on DTC buses that are plying on four routes - 419, 423, 521 and 522. Relevant details such as where a particular bus has stopped and for how long will also be available at a control room. In addition to this, information boards analyse the data at the control room to estimate and display the time taken by the nearest bus on a route to reach the bus stop," an official said. Meanwhile, traffic chaos on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor continued for the second day on Monday during its trial run as vehicles moved at snail's pace due to operational problems. Traffic snarls were witnesses along the 5.8 km stretch between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand in south Delhi.
