Nepalese Canadian Association of Ottawa (NCAO) held a successful Annual Food Drive 2008.
"This year's food drive campaign to benefit the Ottawa Food Bank achieved an extraordinary success by exceeding its goal of raising $10,000. The drive raised $12,000 worth of non-perishable food and cash for the Ottawa Food Bank," says a press release by NCAO.
The association held multicultural dance and cultural performances on Saturday (July 26) at Andrew Haydon Park in Ottawa. It was participated by 85 talents from 19 cultural communities of different countries who entertained an enthusiastic crowd of over 1000. Other activities such as, free mini train ride, hand painting, and visits to booths of Ottawa Police were also major crowd-pullers.
"The NCAO volunteers had been working for several weeks in door-to-door food collection in all regions of Ottawa, and all communities have been very inspiring to our volunteers, and they donated over 8,000 lbs of non-perishable food and cash worth $4,000."
The successful food drive underscores that the charity event organised by a small NCAO community is quickly becoming a popular multi-community event in Ottawa, the release adds.
