Germany is the European Union’s worst polluter, with its production of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel rising 2 percent in 2013 to 760 million tons, data show.
The EU agency Eurostat said Wednesday that while emissions were cut across the 28-member bloc by an average of 2.5 percent last year, they went up in six countries, including Germany.
The strongest cuts in emissions came from Cyprus, where they dipped 14.7 percent. The EU produced a total of 3.35 billion tons of carbon dioxide in 2013, down from 3.43 billion tons in 2012.
